"For the Muslim community of Eastern Bosnia, Srebrenica represents a tragedy of such magnitude that words today cannot nearly convey the true dimensions of this crime. The greatest tragedy of Srebrenica is no longer with the dead, for their suffering has ended. However, we cannot forget the families they left behind. These people are condemned to live their lives without fathers, husbands, brothers, without their relatives, neighbors, without their community. There is too much pain and too much loss for any of us to truly understand the nature and extent of this crime against the Muslim community of Eastern Bosnia." From the opening statement of prosecutor Peter McCloskey at the trial in the case of Blagojević et al. on May 14, 2003.
