Dragan Obrenović was the deputy commander and chief of staff of the Zvornik Brigade – a brigade whose area of responsibility was the municipality where the vast majority of the executions took place. He was sentenced to 17 years in prison. (Case number: IT-02-60/2)
“Here I am before the honorable Court, wishing for my voice of remorse to be heard. I have thought long and hard, and one constant thought haunts me - guilt. It is with discomfort that I utter this truth. I am guilty of all that I did back then, painfully trying to erase it and to be the person I was not at that time. I keep asking myself what I could have done and what I did not do. Thousands of innocent victims perished. There are graves left behind, refugees, everything destroyed, and a general misfortune. I bear a part of the responsibility for that.”
